Do these flowers have you sniffling and sneezing? Seasonal allergies are in full swing. Being proactive about your health will set you up for better immunity and these tips will support your body if you have allergies or no allergies!

How can you be proactive and support immunity?

As a naturopathic doctor I have amazing tools that support your body, decrease symptoms, and may even eliminate allergies completely! Let’s dive in and see the steps you can take to support your immunity.

Food

When you come into the office for a visit I always address what you are eating. Food is medicine but it can also cause problems.Eliminating inflammatory foods decreases the burden on your body and immune system. This leads to decreased allergy symptoms. Doing an elimination diet or food sensitivity testing is a great way to determine which foods may be the culprit. (Yes! I offer food sensitivity testing.)

Air

The air you breathe in is crucial. Having clean, fresh air decreases the burden of pollen and air pollution on your body. The most important place to have clean air is the bedroom. I recommend getting an air filter. I use both Air Doctor and Austin Air  – they are highly rated and have been used effectively throughout all of the fires we’ve had in Northern California. Please call the office if you would like to order an Austin Air Filter.

Home Treatments

The number one home treatment I recommend is the neti pot, or nasal lavage. Using sea salt in warm water to clear the sinuses ensures they are kept clean and free of pollen, bacteria, fungus, viruses, etc. I often put a pinch of probiotics in the water as well. Typically ¼ tsp of sea salt to 1 cup of water is a good concentration. You may have to adjust the salt concentration up or down.

I have also started using a nebulizer with homeopathic remedies with great success. This gets deeper into the sinuses healing the tissues and clearing the pathways.

Office Treatments

Addressing the underlying cause is the #1 focus when you come to see me for allergies. There are several reasons that you could have allergies. Most commonly are environmental triggers like pollen or animal dander however, there could be a food or digestive component, mold exposure, or air pollution also contributing to your symptoms. This is determined through your history and intake.

Addressing your micronutrient levels is another important step. Supporting the body’s basic liver detox pathways is also crucial. Nutritional IV therapy is a fantastic way to support both of these by including the b vitamins, vitamin C, magnesium, calcium, and glutathione.

Further testing may need to be done if these strategies don’t completely resolve your symptoms.

Give the office a call today for support with your allergy symptoms. OR if someone you know is struggling with allergies send them my way. I would love to help them to better health!
