Having quick snacks while you’re on the go is a great way to ensure you’re not going for the chocolate, baked goods, chips and other less-healthy choices.

Most of the snacks I’m suggesting are high in protein ensuring stable blood sugar, decreased cravings, and improved, longer lasting energy. As an added bonus, protein contributes to healthy nails, hair, bones, and muscle.

Quick Snack Ideas

Some of these are great to carry in your car, your purse or bag, and great for traveling. Others are good to keep in the refrigerator at work for a quick little boost of energy.

  • Grass-fed Beef / Turkey/ Venison Sticks – Easy to carry, packed with protein, tasty. These are a staple to have on hand when on the go. Keeping them in the car or your bag will ensure you’re prepared when blood sugar drops. I suggest those products without additive such as nitrates, nitrites, sugars, or anti-biotic raised animals. A quick search online will find many different brands of grass-fed / organic products.
  • Pasture Raised Hard Boiled Eggs – Eggs are a common snack and now we have the convenience of buying the eggs already hard boiled and peeled! What a time saver. Eggs are considered a complete protein delivering 6 grams, also a source for many vitamins and minerals. Check out the breakdown of nutrients here. I suggest purchasing organic eggs and ideally pasture-raised. You’ll notice the yoks are bright yellow!
  • Raw Nuts – Most people know about the benefit of nuts – they’re a great source of protein and healthy fats. Also, easy to carry anywhere and a filling snack. Avoid roasted nuts – these are sometimes roasted via deep-frying and the fats oxidize and become like rust to your body.
  • Canned Sardines – Give them a try. They come packed in olive oil or mustard and are quick easy snack. Try them on gluten-free crackers
  • Apple with nut butter – A favorite go-to. Keeping a jar of almond butter, cashew butter, or even unsweetened sunflower butter at the office. Delicious with sliced apples or pears.

Be Prepared

By keeping any or all of these snacks at home, the office, in your car or purse you’ll have more even blood sugar, and keep your energy levels more stable. Best of all sugar cravings will decrease and you won’t be grabbing highly processed junk food. It’s a winning combination!

Happy snacking!!
